Can we backup the engine DB with the ovirt-engine still running?

Issue

• We would like to backup the engine database while the ovirt-engine is still running. Is this safe? Will the backup be consistent?
• Can we backup the engine DB with the ovirt-engine still running?
• I have been testing engine DB backups using the supplied backup.sh script.
• The documentation does not mention shutting down ovirt-engine when performing a backup. I have tested this with ovirt-engine running and it appears to work fine.
• My question is - would we be advised to shutdown ovirt-engine during a backup? What would happen if ovirt-engine attempted to update the DB during a backup?
• Is the DB locked, in which case, what is the effect on ovirt-engine?
• We don't have any postgres experience here - so we're not sure what to expect.
