Update driver status failed: (config name ceph) is uninitialized

Issue

  • After adding a 4th node to the ceph cluster, cinder-volume service went into failed state. While trying to bring the service up following messages reported in /var/log/cinder/volume.log file:

    2017-03-27 12:23:11.335 145684 ERROR cinder.service [-] Manager for service cinder-volume hostgroup@ceph is reporting problems, not sending heartbeat. Service will appear "down".
    2017-03-27 12:23:12.197 145684 WARNING cinder.volume.manager [req-4191d968-5058-4d41-9e96-426b98e15607 - - - - -] Update driver status failed: (config name ceph) is uninitialized.
