Issue

  • How do I rebuild a software RAID 1 array after a disk failure?
  • One of my software RAID disks died and my system won't boot
  • We had configured mdraid for /boot and root filesystem. The disk /dev/sda was recently removed form system to verify if the system could boot with remaining disk in mdraid, and the test was successful. But we are unable to add the partition /dev/sda2 back into the mdraid array md0 and got below error:

    $ mdadm --manage /dev/md0 --re-add /dev/sda2
    mdadm: --re-add for /dev/sda2 to /dev/md0 is not possible
