Unable to export to PDF in Dashbuilder in JBoss BPM Suite 6.x

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat JBoss BPM Suite (BPMS) 6.x

Issue

  • Dashbuilder allows to export data only to MS Excel and CSV. How to export to PDF in Dashbuilder?

Resolution

In dashbuilder, there already exist a work-around for exporting any existing page, dashboard or table report to PDF. It consists of using the browser's print option to print the current page as a PDF file. The thing is that sometimes the current page is not very suitable for printing as it contains some UI elements that should be removed, in such case the customer can create a printable version of the page which can be linked from the original page. Next are the steps to achieve so:

  1. Create an ad-hoc printable version of the page, using the dashbuilder UI composition features. You can start by cloning the original page and then modify the result adding or removing UI elements, changing the layout, etc...
  2. Link the printable page from the original one by adding a link ("print" icon or the like). You can also make such link to open the printable page in a separated window;
  3. Users can print to PDF the page above just using the browser's printing capabilities.
