cman service delays or hangs when "Starting fencing" in RHEL 5

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • When I start the cman service either manually or during boot, it stalls or hangs indefinitely on "Starting fencing"
# service cman start
Starting cluster:
 Loading modules... done
 Mounting configfs... done
 Starting ccsd... done
 Starting cman... done
 Starting qdiskd... done
 Starting daemons... done
 Starting fencing...
  • 2-node cluster rebooted, both nodes hang on fencing
  • Node does not join the fence domain on boot, but they seem to be able to communicate shortly after fencing fails
