Kernel panic due to "spin_lock" contension caused by "linuxshield" module

Issue

  • Kernel panic while it was trying to acquire spinlock (The McShield internal watchdog timer lock) inside doScan() function of the unsigned (U) module [linuxshield].

  • All the active tasks on each CPU were trying to acquire the spinlock (watchdogLock) inside doScan() function of the unsigned (U) module [linuxshield].

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Kernel-2.6.32-642.6.1.el6
  • HP- ProLiant DL380 Gen9
