Why with "SCTP" connections using IPv6 addresses, the connection continues to use the primary address for heartbeat/heartbeat_ack exchange over secondary path when the primary path is down in RHEL?

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • With this multi-homed interfaces, if primary path was interrupted, secondary addresses were not chosen to forward the SCTP Heartbeat/Heartbeat_ACK and this resulted with the SCTP disruption.
  • After primary addresses were deleted, SCTP Heartbeat/Heartbeat_ACK was forwarded using the deleted primary IPv6 addresses using secondary IPv6 MAC address.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.
  • SCTP on IPv6 bases multi-home environments.
