Why can't Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.9 anaconda find ZFCP disks on s390x installation?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Cannot see any disk in anaconda installer while booting the machine using Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.9 DVD media.
  • The disk needed to use is not listed in the disk selection interface in Anaconda installer, but can be seen as an scsi generic device with the command line:
[anaconda root@test 0x0001000000000000]# lsscsi -g
[0:0:0:1] disk IBM 2145 0000 - /dev/sg0
[1:0:1:1] disk IBM 2145 0000 - /dev/sg1
  • These devices are not shown as block devices.
[anaconda root@test 0x0001000000000000]# ls -l /dev/sg*
crw-rw----. 1 root disk 21, 0 Mar 28 12:32 /dev/sg0
crw-rw----. 1 root disk 21, 1 Mar 28 12:32 /dev/sg1
  • The disk interface of Anaconda (Option "Specialized Storage Devices") is fully empty.
  • Tried to manually add the FCP disk and it locates the disk and it seems that put this disk online, but the disk still not appear in the interface, so it is not possible to continue with the installation.
  • dmesg when adding a ZFCP disk:
scsi0 : zfcp
qdio: 0.0.c020 ZFCP on SC 5b6 using AI:1 QEBSM:0 PCI:1 TDD:1 SIGA: W AOP
scsi 0:0:3:1: Direct-Access IBM 2145 0000 PQ: 1 ANSI: 6
scsi 0:0:3:1: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 0

[anaconda root@test log]# lsscsi -g
[0:0:3:1] disk IBM 2145 0000 - /dev/sg0
