Does Red Hat support rebuilding the `initrd` file of one major release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux with the module from another major release?
Issue
- The newly purchased hardware does not support older version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), it needs a module to run a particular hardware which is available in next major release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. How to rebuild the

How do I add a driver to the initrd.img (initial RAM disk) used during installation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (and newer)?

initrd
file, the system got panic'd with the following error message.
VFS: Cannot open root device "<NULL>" or unknown-block(104,3)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(104,3)
