FileHandler logging properties not getting picked up on Tomcat

Issue

  • We have set our log files to be a specific size and to keep only 1 historical file.
  • The settings are defined in logging.properties, but it appears that these settings didn't go into effect and we have to manually clean up log files.

Environment

  • JBoss Enterprise Web Server (EWS)
    • Tomcat 6
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
    • Tomcat 6
