Issue

  • Large GRE packet drop on bridge Interface when GRO on physical NIC is enabled.
  • Dramatic performance loss for GRE packets if GRO is enabled.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3
  • GRE tunnelling
  • GRO enabled on passing through host's NIC
  • A typical configuration is, although this may differ:
VM1 (GRE->eth0) -- Host1 (vnet -> Linux Bridge --> eth0) -- Host2(eth0 <GRO ON> -> Linux Bridge --> vnet) -- VM2(eth0 -> GRE)
