The subcommand 'mkpartfs' in the parted command can not create a 2TB or more filesystem correctly.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When a filesystem with 2TB or more of space is created by mkpartfs in parted, it does not seem to correctly allocate the space because "block bitmap" and "inode bitmap" should be outside the range of free blocks but in some cases they are within the range of free blocks.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 8

    • ia64
    • parted-1.6.19-23.EL-ia64
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Update 1 to Update 7
