Pre-existing LV's created on a RHEL 6 system are not activated on boot on RHEL 7

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • Attaching disks with pre-existing LV's (coming from RHEL 6) results in the RHEL 7 system failing to boot. As the freshly attached RHEL 6 LV's are not activated automatically, the newly created fstab entries referring to them, cause the RHEL 7 to fail to boot.

  • Running vgchange -ay manually after boot works fine, and all LV's are available, only to fail again after reboot.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
