Virtual machine with Virtio-SCSI direct-attached lun with scsi passthrough enabled becomes paused on RHEL-7.3 Hypervisor

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • VM has been paused due to unknown storage error.
  • VM on RHEL 7.3 Hypervisor with Kernel 3.10.0-514.6.1.el7.x86_64 or earlier with a direct attached LUN that is configured as Virtio-SCSI with scsi passthrough enabled will be paused as soon as writing operations are performed on the LUN within the Guest.
  • VM getting paused, after upgrading Hypervisor to RHEL-7.3
  • VM attached with Direct-LUN gets paused immediately after mounting the LUN from inside the OS [Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1] before even performing any write operations on the LUN - with "Unknown storage Error" seen in the WebUI in the VM events.

  • SCSI passthrough enabled, e.g. the option Enable SCSI Pass-Through activated on the LUN via the RHEV Admin Portal
