Alignment failure on EMC SAN disk causing XFS error "warning: device is not properly aligned"

Issue

Incorrect optimal I/O value exported by EMC SAN causes various levels of the linux storage stack to mis-align partitions & data areas.

[root@host]# mkfs.xfs /dev/vg1/lv1
warning: device is not properly aligned /dev/vg1/lv1
Use -f to force usage of a misaligned device
