SAPInstance resource unable to start with error "SAPInstance: <warning> Expected /<path to profile> to be the instance START profile, please set START_PROFILE parameter!" in RHEL cluster

Issue

  • clurgmgrd (rgmanager) throws an error when starting a service with an SAPInstance instructing to "set START_PROFILE parameter"
  • After migrating SAP NetWeaver from 7.01 to 7.3, cluster is unable to initiate SAP instance that is configured as a resource with the following error:
SAPInstance: <warning> Expected /<path to profile> to be the instance START profile, please set START_PROFILE parameter!

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 or 6 with the High Availability Add On
  • SAP NetWeaver 7.1 and newer (e. g. 7.3)
  • A cluster service containing one or more SAPInstance resources in /etc/cluster/cluster.conf
