Running HP vendor supplied command 'hpacucli', frequently shows "blocks=XX, block_size=XX, heads=XX, sectors=XX, cylinders=XX" messages in logs.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Whenever the command hpacucli is run, messages similar to the following are seen in /var/log/messages:
    kernel:
    kernel: blocks= 286677120 block_size= 512
    kernel: heads= 255, sectors= 32, cylinders= 35132
  • These messages confuse some third party log monitoring tools, which falsely report hardware problems as result.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.4 or 5.5
  • HP hardware (cciss storage controller)
