Slave interface of bond doesn't get automatically activated after `ifup` when NetworkManager is used in RHEL 7

Issue

After bond0 is deactivated on NIC managed by NetworkManager the slaves gets deactivated but after reactivating the bond0 the slaves have to be activated manually:

# nmcli con down/up bond0

or

# ifup bond0

It is still necessary to do

#  nmcli dev con slave1/slave2

However, when NetworkManager is not used the slaves are automatically enabled with bond0.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4 or earlier version
  • Bonding with Network Manager
