Migrate or spawn an instance fails with "Permission denied" on console.log.

Issue

After upgrade to OSP9 which also pulled in RHEL 7.3 updates as the system was not subscribed to a 7.2.z channel, spawning new instance fails with:

2016-11-23 03:42:50.349 14899 ERROR nova.compute.manager [instance: 590814cc-4cbf-453b-bcb0-c47cecc23f6b] libvirtError: Unable to open file: /data/nova/instances/590814cc-4cbf-453b-bcb0-c47cecc23f6b/console.log: Permission denied

Environment

  • Red Hat OpenStack
  • libvirt 2.x (RHEL 7.3)
  • state_path in nova.conf is NOT the default /var/lib/nova
