Moving Kubernetes Master Services from RPMs to Containers

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.2.3 introduced the ability to run kube-apiserver, kube-controller-manager, and kube-scheduler as containers
  • These three "master" services are currently configured and running properly using the kubernetes-master RPM
  • With the 7.3.0 release, Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host no longer provides the kubernetes-master RPM, and the three kubernetes master services need to be transitioned to containers.
  • What is the best way to move from an RPM-based implementation to a container-based installation?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux >= 7.2.3
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host >= 7.2.3
  • A functional RPM-based kubernetes installation
