Processes segfault in libc-2.12.so when forking or logging after rsyslog.conf is modified in RHEL 6

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • rgmanager segfaults repeatedly as soon as it is started. clustat shows no services running
  • qdiskd segfaults on startup
  • My process fails to start or to log information after I've modified rsyslog.conf
  • Logging with logger does not go to the logfile

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6
  • rsyslog

  • One of the following:

    • /etc/rsyslog.conf has been modified to no longer contain the line:
    $ModLoad imuxsock
    • OR rsyslog is crashing or not running
