The heads of EMC VPLEX are accessed in the same priority, how can a group by priority be defined for it in multipath

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • EMC VPLEX is used to mirror SAN based storage.
  • Both heads of the VPLEX are accessed in the same priority while the requirement is that the local one should be preferred
  • The path priority is as below:
# multipath -ll /dev/sdbf
FRVPLEX_DGDATA_INT1_805 (36000144000000010e06d8f12ec30dd4b) dm-11 EMC,Invista
[size=128G][features=1 queue_if_no_path][hwhandler=0][rw]
\_ round-robin 0 [prio=8][active]
 \_ 3:0:6:4 sdaa 65:160 [active][ready]
 \_ 3:0:7:4 sdaj 66:48  [active][ready]
 \_ 5:0:2:4 sdaw 67:0   [active][ready]
 \_ 5:0:3:4 sdbf 67:144 [active][ready]
 \_ 5:0:6:4 sdbq 68:64  [active][ready]
 \_ 5:0:7:4 sdbz 68:208 [active][ready]
 \_ 3:0:2:4 sdg  8:96   [active][ready]
 \_ 3:0:3:4 sdp  8:240  [active][ready]
  • The priorities of the two different parts of the VPLEX are equal, where they should not be.
        |------ SAN1 ---- VPLEX DC1 ---- LUN1-DC1
Host ===|         |
        |------ SAN2 ---- VPLEX DC2 ---- LUN1-DC2

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8
  • EMC VPLEX
