No tabbed searching or global search in RHEL 5's Thunderbird

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5

Issue

  • RHEL5's thunderbird version is old (2.0), can we get the 3.5 version?

Resolution

  • This request is being considered by Red Hat Engineering and Red Hat Product Management for inclusion in a future release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.  It will not appear in a major release (e.g. RHEL 5.5 or RHEL 5.6) as Firefox and Thunderbird are no longer part of the normal update cycle and must be updated asyncronously.  It is currently not being considered for a rebase until RHEL 5.6.z
  • The Bugzilla to use for tracking this request is BZ569592.

Root Cause

  • Thunderbird was recently rebased for RHEL 5.2 (see BZ382821)

  • Currently, Red Hat Engineering does not believe Thunderbird 3.5.x is in a good state to push to enterprise customers yet.  There are many open bugs and many of the new features appear to cause significant performance hits for normal users.

This solution is part of Red Hat’s fast-track publication program, providing a huge library of solutions that Red Hat engineers have created while supporting our customers.
