NFSv4 server returns "bad sequence-id error! " to NFS clients causing a crash/hang in the accessed share.

Issue

  • NFSv4 volumes of Netapp (OnTap 7.3) and accessed by a single Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 client, crashes with the following message in /var/log/messages

    Jan 28 09:14:39  kernel: NFS: v4 server returned a bad sequence-id error! 
    
  • The share becomes inaccessible after this for writes along with remote I/O errors.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 ---> Client
  • Netapp Filer (Ontap 7.3.1.1L1P2) --Server
