Nic renaming interfaces as renameX instead of ethX

Issue

  • When the server reboot, one of the interfaces is renamed to rename3 instead of eth2.
 Sep 15 19:22:11 ServerName kernel: udev: renamed network interface eth1 to rename3
 Sep 15 19:22:11 ServerName kernel: udev: renamed network interface eth0 to rename2
 Sep 15 19:22:11 ServerName kernel: udev: renamed network interface eth2 to eth0
 Sep 15 19:22:11 ServerName kernel: udev: renamed network interface eth3 to eth1

The server has been rebooted and udev entries removed from :

/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3
  • Enic network driver (confirmed)
