Server running md raid boots to grub> prompt

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When a server is booting from an md raid, and the first disk in the raid has an issue with the md device that /boot is on, but the mbr is still present. Grub will drop the server into the grub> prompt, because the /boot/grub/grub.conf file is referencing (hd0,0), and grub has no way of telling that the server is running a md raid. So it is not able to find the /boot/grub/grub.conf file on (hd0,0).
