controld resource fails to start with "dlm: Unknown symbol sctp_do_peeloff (err 0)" and "modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'dlm'" in a RHEL 7 Resilient Storage cluster

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • When we attempt to start our controld resource, we get errors in the logs and the resource fails
  • I can't start dlm_controld, and we see errors about sctp
Sep 13 14:56:10 node1 kernel: dlm: Unknown symbol sctp_do_peeloff (err 0)
Sep 13 14:56:10 node1 controld(dlm)[43667]: ERROR: /sys/kernel/config/dlm not available
Sep 13 14:56:10 node1 lrmd[43478]: notice: dlm_start_0:43667:stderr [ modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'dlm': Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg) ]
Sep 13 14:56:10 node1 crmd[43481]: notice: Operation dlm_start_0: not installed (node=node1, call=26, rc=5, cib-update=17, confirmed=true)

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7 with the Resilient Storage Add-On
  • dlm
  • One or more controld resources in the cluster CIB
  • A blacklist entry, module-install option, or other mechanism that prevents the sctp module from being loaded
    • See Diagnostic Steps for locating these mechanisms
