RHEL6.8: Booted to 2.6.32-642.el6 kernel and seeing "NFS: nfs4_reclaim_open_state: Lock reclaim failed!" when starting IBM queue manager

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

We are having a problem with our WebSphere MQ queue manager which is using NFSv4 file systems. The "nfs4_reclaim_open_stat: Lock reclaim failed!" message is showing up in /var/log/messages under heavy load in the queue managers during our testing.

We haven't started using the application yet, but it is running. The NFS error only occurs when the application is running.

This was addressed in https://access.redhat.com/solutions/382283 but was resolved in the kernel-2.6.32-431.el6 errata RHSA-2013-1645 but we are running a newer kernel so all though we see the exact same error in our /var/log/messages file this solution doesn't apply to our kernel. I did however run a tcpdump as suggested in that solution, but it did not produce a NFS4ERR_BAD_STATEID error.

Environment

    • seen on kernel-2.6.32-642.el6
  • VMWare ESX guest
  • IBM MQ
  • /etc/fstab options too for the NFS mounts
