After reboot, the virtual HBAs - NPIV (N-Port virtualization) are in the state "Bypassed"

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • After updating the firmware of the Emulex Host Bus Adapter (HBA) and creating N-Port virtualized HBAs, the created HBAs appear with status Bypassed and not Online. The system also is unable to access LUNs configured to those HBAs.
  • If the fibre-channel HBA is scanned by using rescan-scsi-bus.sh, the system gets stuck and the virtual HBAs change its status to Bypassed.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (RHEL 6)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 (RHEL 7)
  • Emulex XE-104 (i.e. HPE-650FLB LOM) (Firmware greater 10.2.477.23)
  • Brocade FabricOS < 6.4
