nash does not support iBFT for boot from iSCSI

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

After installing RHEL-5.4 on iSCSI storage, the system is not able to boot, i.e. it can not find the / filesystem.

The initrd.img contains the following lines which instructs the system to get the network configuration from iBFT (instead of DHCP or static configuration):

echo Bringing up eth0
netname 00:22:19:57:05:CF eth0
network --device eth0 --bootproto ibft
echo Attaching to iSCSI storage

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4
  • anaconda generated initrd.img for kernel 2.6.18-164.el5
