How to switch from /dev/dm-N devices to /dev/mapper/mpathX devices in Red Hat Enterprise Linux?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • LVM devices are configured using /dev/dm-N devices, is there any way to switch from dm-N devices to multipath device names /dev/mapper/mpathX in Red Hat Enterprise Linux?

  • In dealing with the /dev/dm-# devices, what would be recommendation? Is there anyway to fix already existing infrastructure with data on LVM devices created on /dev/dm-N to use the /dev/mapper/mpath# instead?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5/6
  • Device Mapper Multipath(DM-Multipath)
  • Logical Volume Manager(LVM)
