Why does selinux security context prevent Samba from working properly in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5?

Issue

  • Samba share setup. The security context cannot applied. This is preventing the Samba share access. The following are the error messages from /var/log/messages

    1. SELinux is preventing access to files with the label, file_t. For complete SELinux messages. 
       run sealert -l 732d3969-f264-418e-a5c2-0a18a4c40bd4
    
    2. Setroubleshoot: SELinux is preventing net (samba_net_t) "write" to ./636F6F6C6B6579706B313173452D47617465203020302D30 (auth_cache_t). 
       For complete SELinux messages run sealert -l 49f46a5a-3076-4fcf-b143-ee6a9c9c3112
    
    3. SELinux is preventing smbd (smbd_t) "sys_nice" to <Unknown> (smbd_t)
    
    4. SELinux is preventing winbindd (winbind_t) "write" to ./krb5.conf (etc_t)
    

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4
  • Samba 3.0.33-3.15.el5_4
  • Microsoft Windows (XP) clients accessing samba shares
