DB startup fails because system is unable to create shared memory segments bigger than 256GB

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (< RHEL-6.3);
  • Applications resorting to big (>256GB) shared memory segments via mmap(2) / shmget(2) syscalls
  • 64bit architecture
