Error "Failed to load platform utilization data" occurs in JBoss ON UI approximately 30 seconds after accessing the Platform Utilization portlet or report

Issue

  • After logging in, user-interface (UI) shows Server returned FAILURE with no error message
  • The following error is displayed in the Message Center:

    Message :   Failed to load platform utilization data. This occurred because the server is taking a long time to complete this request. Please be aware that the server may still be processing your request and it may complete shortly. You can check the server logs to see if any abnormal errors occurred.
    Severity :  Warning
    Detail :    com.google.gwt.http.client.RequestTimeoutException:A request timeout has expired after 30000 ms
    
  • The Platform Utilization report and Dashboard portlet are blank
  • Platform Utilization widget won't display
  • When I bring up a dashboard that has the Platform Utilization widget, we are getting errors and it won't display.

Environment

  • Red Hat JBoss Operations Network (ON) 3.1, 3.1.1, 3.1.2
  • An attempt is made to load platform utilization data
    • Dashboard portlet Platform Utilization
    • Platform Utilization report from the inventory report page
  • Any one or combination of the following:
    • One or more agents take a combined time of 30 seconds or more to return live measurement data from their respective platforms
    • One or more agents are offline or unreachable by the ON server and take a combined time of 30 seconds or more to return a network connection error or timeout
