Kickstart does not find client hostname when configuring networking

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • using config file to set up /etc/hosts file during kickstart from Satellite
  • config file uses macros to store client's hostname and IP address in /etc/hosts, e.g.:

    {| rhn.system.net_interface.ip_address(eth0) |}   {| rhn.system.hostname |}

  • hostname is not found, and is populated in /etc/hosts as "unknown"

  • also, /etc/sysconfig/network has "localhost.localdomain" as the HOSTNAME

Environment

  • Red Hat Network Satellite
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
