[RHEL 5.4z] 'qla2xxx Abort command issued' error messages for IBM virtual tape devices at boot time

Issue

  • "qla2xxx Abort command issued" error messages at boot time
  • messages not present on 4.7 before upgrade
  • messages not present on Fedora 12
qla2xxx_eh_abort(3): aborting sp ffff81042c8d2d00 from RISC. pid=3.  
scsi(3): ABORT status detected 0x5-0x0.  
qla2xxx 0000:10:00.1: scsi(3:0:0): Abort command issued -- 1 3 2002.
  • messages are for first attached tape device on each bus
  • message only displayed once on each bus

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.4z ( 2.6.18-164.9.1.el5)
  • Qlogic FC SCSI Adapters with tape devices attached
  • Virtual Tape Library (VTL, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Server with Quantum DXi Library)
  • Tapes report the following model/firmware information:
Vendor: HP Model: Ultrium 2-SCSI Rev: K4CZ  
Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03
