How does the "rpmdev-vercmp" work?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • While using the rpmdev-vercmp script with two package versions, got the wrong result :
rpmdev-vercmp proftpd-1.3.5b-2.el7.x86_64.rpm proftpd-1.3.5-2.el7.x86_64.rpm
The result is:
proftpd-1.3.5b-2.el7.x86_64.rpm < proftpd-1.3.5-2.el7.x86_64.rpm
  • But the result should be :
proftpd-1.3.5b-2.el7.x86_64.rpm > proftpd-1.3.5-2.el7.x86_64.rpm

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.2
  • rpmdevtools-8.3-5.el7.noarch
