Re-exporting a mounted NFS share leads to issues on RHEL4

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Solaris 10 host gets these error messages sometimes when accessing an NFS file system shared by a RHEL server:

Jan 10 08:01:00 pssva052 nfs: [ID 456612 kern.notice] file temporarily unavailable on the server, retrying...

Here is the /etc/vfstab entry on Solaris that we use to mount the NFS file system:

pslva003:/data/prd/top/vad/remake/conversion/transfer_out - /fnsw/local/stage/STM/input nfs 3 yes vers=3,bg

The /etc/exports line on the Linux server:

/data/prd/top/vad/remake/conversion/transfer_out pssva052.example.com(rw)

Environment

  • RHEL 4.8
  • Linux NFS server
  • Solaris NFS client
