Is it safe to exclude few files/directories from system backup ?

Issue

  • While defining a list of exclusion for backup strategy , is it acceptable to exclude below mentioned directories from back up :-

    /dev, /lost+found, /media, /mnt, /proc, /sys, /tmp, /var/run, /var/tmp

Environment

  • RHEL 5
  • RHEL 6
  • RHEL 7
