Restarting the directory server takes 10 minutes

Issue

  • When we restart our directory server, the following keeps happening:
[root@srvds1 foo]# stop-dirsrv Stopping instance "foobar"
[root@srvds1 foo]# start-dirsrv Starting instance "foobar"
(10 minutes pass)
Server not running!! Failed to start ns-slapd process. Please check the errors log for problems.
  • Directory servers start-up takes more than 10 minutes and is reporting failure during start-up. When checking the error_log the following is found.
[27/Jun/2016:09:06:55 +0200] - convert_pbe_des_to_aes: Checking for DES passwords to convert to AES...
[27/Jun/2016:09:17:02 +0200] convert_pbe_des_to_aes - No DES passwords found to convert.
