Why "pax" throws error : Cpio header field is too small to store file?

Issue

  • A script backup the oracle database use pax -wdv -x cpio, but after upgrading to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.2 got error :
    pax: Cpio header field is too small to store file
pax: Cpio header field is too small to store file 36388.cnt
36388.rst
pax: Cpio header field is too small to store file 36388.rst
36388.tmp
pax: Cpio header field is too small to store file 36388.tmp
37607.cnt
pax: Cpio header field is too small to store file 37607.cnt
37607.log
pax: Cpio header field is too small to store file 37607.log
37607.tmp
  • No matter whatever format used cpio, tar, ustar with pax, getting same error.
