Cluster node binds to the wrong network interface and cannot join the cluster in RHEL 5 Update 4 and earlier

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Starting cman fails with aisexec error:
cman_tool: aisexec daemon didn't start
  • Node cannot join cluster
  • openais lists the wrong IP address when cman is starting, and the node never joins the cluster:
Jun 24 09:58:16 node1 openais[17410]: [TOTEM] The network interface [10.90.2.48] is now up.
Jun 24 09:58:32 node1 ccsd[13433]: Unable to connect to cluster infrastructure after 1350 seconds.
Jun 24 09:59:02 node1 ccsd[13433]: Unable to connect to cluster infrastructure after 1380 seconds.
  • When I start cman, I see openais start and load the configuration, but it never forms a configuration (membership), even with just itself.
  • OpenAIS problems when using a network mask for bindnetaddr in openais.conf

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 Update 4 or earlier
    • Using the High Availability Add On, or
    • Using openais independently
  • openais prior to release 0.80.0-16.el5
