get a wrong time information in multi-threaded application

Issue

  • Sometimes customer's application gots wrong timestamp when using localtime() call.
  • It didn't happen in the system time and hwclock command. It only happened in their own application, so a wrong implmenetation must be a root cause.
  • Customer confirmed that they use localtime() function as their system gathering method and use multi-thread.

  • OS : Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Update 2
  • glibc version is not provided
