pvmove for stripped LVs fails with "Insufficient suitable allocatable extents for logical volume"

Issue

  • Getting following error message on running pvmove for stripped LVM volumes:
[root@localhost ]# pvmove -i60 /dev/sda /dev/sdb
  Insufficient suitable allocatable extents for logical volume : 25344 more required
  Unable to allocate mirror extents for pvmove0.
  Failed to convert pvmove LV to mirrored
  • Want to migrate my LVM data/stack from multiple disks to a single disk from new SAN however pvmove operation fails with above error message?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux(RHEL) 6
