Unable to boot from cinder volume when flavor disk size too small

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Create a volume from an image in Horizon.
  • Make the size of the volume larger than the default image size. For example, 200 GB.
  • Try to build a new instance from that volume that is 200 GB with a flavor who has a disk size of 20 GB
  • Receive the below error in Horizon:
Unable to launch member 1 with name <name>
Recoverable error: Flavor's disk is too small for requested image. (HTTP 400)

Environment

  • Red Hat OpenStack Platform 6.0
