Keyboard does not work on remote login to a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 server via XDMCP on Windows

Issue

  • Cannot type when using XDMCP with Cygwin / X11 on Windows to connect to a RHEL 5 machine. The mouse works, but the keyboard does not.

  • Remote X11 via XDMCP using Cygwin / X on Windows brings up the login page, but does not accept keyboard input.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Cygwin / X11 XDMCP client on Windows
