Controlling how much information CUPS logs in RHEL

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Cupsd is logging too much information.
  • How do I prevent CUPS from verbose logging to /var/log/cups/access_log and /var/log/cups/error_log?
  • How to capture only error log in CUPS which is starting with "E"; for example:

E [5/Nov/2012:08:07 -0500] Unable to accept client connection - Too many open files.

  • We have set AccessLogLevel in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf to config, however we are still getting flooded with "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 416 CUPS-Get-Printers successful-ok" messages. Why doesn't the AccessLogLevel apply when lptstat is run to stop the CUPS access_log from growing so large.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • Common Unix Printing System (CUPS)
