CAN (Controller Area Network ) bus support in RHEL7 kernel.

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • CAN (Controller Area Network ) is a basic protocol
  • In Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 it is not enabled.
  • CAN was enable in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and we discovered this issue during our upgrade test.
  • Would Red Hat consider re-enabling it on a future Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 kernel ?
  • We would need the following options:
CONFIG_CAN=m
CONFIG_CAN_RAW=m
CONFIG_CAN_BCM=m
CONFIG_CAN_VCAN=m
CONFIG_CAN_DEV=m
CONFIG_CAN_CALC_BITTIMING=y
  • We have around 150 machines affected, at this time they run Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.

  • Current Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 kernel config
# cat /boot/config-2.6.32-573.12.1.el6.x86_64  | grep _CAN_
CONFIG_CAN_RAW=m
CONFIG_CAN_BCM=m
CONFIG_CAN_VCAN=m
CONFIG_CAN_DEV=m
CONFIG_CAN_CALC_BITTIMING=y
CONFIG_CAN_SJA1000=m
CONFIG_CAN_SJA1000_PLATFORM=m
CONFIG_CAN_EMS_PCI=m
CONFIG_CAN_KVASER_PCI=m
CONFIG_CAN_EMS_USB=m
CONFIG_CAN_DEBUG_DEVICES=y

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
