Wrong number of CPUs in /proc/cpuinfo when using Virtual Processor in PowerPC

Issue

  • When reserving 4 cores with HMC (Hardware Management Console) in a LPAR, the Operating System shows 16 cores.
  • Reserved 4 cores not 4 physical processors, HMC shows the correct value (4) that diverges from Operating System.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.x
  • IBM Power 770
  • PowerPC (ppc) architecture
