configuration error: couldn't perform authentication. AuthType not set!
Issue
- Requests fail to httpd with the following error in httpd's error_log:
[crit] [client 127.0.0.1] configuration error: couldn't perform authentication. AuthType not set!: /
- Users are reporting "Internal Server Error" is displayed in their browser
- httpd's access_log contains HTTP-500 response codes confirming the "Internal Server Error" reported by users
All of the above conditions should be met (the error_log statements being the most important) in order for the solution below to apply.
